Standish is a rural and suburban town located outside of Portland. The area got its start as a farming and agricultural community; the bountiful pine trees, arable land, and natural waterways made it ideal for farming, timber manufacturing, and other markets. Today, Standish is a recreational destination due to its proximity to Sebago Lake, Watchic Lake, and the Presumpscot River; it is also a comfortable suburb of Portland.
