Whether you are building new, replacing a failing well or adding a second source, drilling in York County takes planning. We talk through site, access, depth and testing so that you know what the finished system will look like.

Water Well Drilling for Shapleigh homes

Shapleigh is a quiet lake-country town in western York County, with ponds, camps, year-round homes and long wooded roads. There is no public water to speak of, so nearly every household depends on its own well and its own treatment.

Drilled wells in this part of York County pass through granite country, where arsenic, uranium and radon are all fair questions. A well drilled decades ago may be a good source or a low producer waiting for a dry August, and only a flow test tells which.

What we see in York County wells

Lakeside lots are tight, with a septic system, a shoreline and often small setbacks. For a Shapleigh property, we plan the well location to stay clear of the septic field and protect the wellhead from flooding and runoff.

What we check first in Shapleigh

  • Bacteria and nitrate on the new well before first use
  • Static water level and well depth for the record
  • A repeat panel in the first year, to see how the well settles

How it works

How we handle water well drilling, step by step

  1. 1

    Site visit and planning

Before the rig arrives, we cover permits, utilities, expected depth and the equipment you will need. A short planning visit avoids surprises later.

  2. 2

    Drill and case

The rig drills through soil and into bedrock, a steel casing is driven and seated in rock, and the open hole is continued to depth. Cuttings are logged as the drill goes down.

  3. 3

    Test the yield

A yield test shows what the well can provide. If it comes up short, we discuss hydrofracturing, a deeper hole or storage as options.

  4. 4

    Equip, sample and treat

We install the pump, tank and controls, connect the line to the house and disinfect the new well. A water sample then goes to the lab.

What shapes the job in Shapleigh

Yield is tested after drilling. We measure how much water the well produces over time, and if it is too low for the house, there are options such as a deeper hole, hydrofracturing or storage. Near the Shapleigh ponds and lakes, results can vary even between close neighbors.

When a new well makes sense

  • A building lot with no water supply
  • A well whose casing has failed
  • A new subdivision lot without public water
  • An old well with no record that may be unsafe
